The NDC and John Mahama are letting it look as if they have never been in government before.
It should be recalled that Mr John Dramani Mahama was very influential in the drafting of the NDC’s 2008 manifesto that brought them to power. He became the luckiest vice president ever and subsequently rode on to become the president by default in June 2012. It is also worthy to recall that this same Mr Mahama executed another manifesto in the 2012 campaign that ’won’ him another 4-year term as president. In effect, he had eight(8) solid years to prove his sincerity and worth to Ghanaians. In all the eight years he didn’t just performed woefully, he did the exact opposite of what he promised.
If there is anyone who has absolute disregard to manifesto and campaign promises, then that fellow is former president John Dramani Mahama. He promises heaven during campaigns but delivers hell when voted into power. He sees lying as being politically smart.
Mr Mahama and his NDC cannot be trusted when it comes to delivering on their campaign promises taking their past record into consideration.
When they promise heaven, one should expect nothing but a complete hell.
Mr John Dramani Mahama who is promising to pay assembly members in the unlikely event that he comes to power made same promise in 2012 but failed to honour the said promise. What he callously did rather was that, he introduced a new Local Governance Act 936 which actually took away some important powers of Assembly Members. Example of such is the scrapping of the Audit Report Implementation Committee (ARIC) which gave honourable assembly members so much power and replacing it with Audit Committee with technocrats in control.
At the time Ghanaians were expecting a decrease in utility bills due to the incessant power outages which toppled JM’s government as a result of gross ineptitude, incompetence and reckless handing of the power sector, NDC led by Mr Mahama still had the gusts to increase utility bills. Even when Ghanaians pointed out to them that, the increment of utility bills was a complete departure of what they promised in 2012 electioneering campaign, they ignored it.
It is important to note however that, when they promised one time premium for health insurance, they failed to deliver. What they gave to us was the introduction of capitation in some regions which further worsened the plights of those who could not afford primary health care when there was no insurance in the system until the NPP had the opportunity in 2001.
Let it also be known that, the NDC led by Mr John Mahama could not even raise a $3B when they wanted to construct the Kasoa interchange and Kwame Nkrumah Circle because they had issues with policy credibility which was the reason why they went to IMF for a bailout.
The NDC’s failure to raise a $3B facility for some projects as mentioned above landed us in the hands of the Chinese. Government of Ghana was to secure a CDB loan of $3B from the Chinese government. At the end of the day, because we failed to draw down on some conditionalities attached to the loan, we had to pay in excess of $300m on penalties alone. The NDC led by JM was only able to secure $2B with penalties.
The question is how can a party that struggled to raise a $3B facility be able to raise $10B as a big push for infrastructure as stated in their “kwatrekwa” manifesto.
Ghanaians must indeed be wary of these political characters seeking our mandate. If the man who does not believe in Free SHS suddenly makes a U-turn and promises to make it better, then you should be wary. If the man who did not see the creation of Western North Region as a necessity suddenly makes a U-turn and says that he is the best man to nurture our baby region, then you should be wary.
Mr John Dramani Mahama and the NDC have nothing better for the good people of Ghana.
The alternative is not new to us. He is simply empty with nothing in mind. He is only coming back with a criminal mindset which is to create, loot and share.
Ghanaians must reject him come December 7th.
